On this occasion I will share a little about the built-in features of Windows, this article I got from Search Engine and from personal experience. OK, just like what I wrote in the title of this post about the MSCONFIG Command function.
MSCONFIG (Microsoft Configuration command) is a Windows default tool in all versions used for troubleshooting such as disabling software / drivers / etc, from booting up, and can help solve computer problems. other than that in this MSCONFIG tool you can improve computer performance.

  • Start-up costumization, both start-up by user and by system without deleting shortcuts, simply enable what you want to run at start-up or disable if you don't want to run at start-up.
  • Boot customization, for example removing the winXP logo at boot time.
  • Speed up and optimize windows without software.
Here are some of the features of MSCONFIG Command that can speed up and optimize your windows.
In this GENERAL tab, we can modify the system configuration by selecting the method of how the Windows loading process will be carried out. There are 3 (three) main ways here. That is :
  • Normal Startup - all drivers and services will be loaded.
  • Diagnostic Startup - only standard drivers and services are loaded.
  • Selective Startup - only selected parts will be loaded.
In this method the Windows system is divided into more broadly, namely SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI, SYSTEM SERVICES, and START UP ITEMS with the choice of booting using the original or modified BOOT.INI file.
In the BOOt tab you will see the type of windows installed on this tab. We can shorten the time it takes to boot by changing the number in the box- [Timeout] (default = 30 seconds). Meanwhile, using the [Advance Options ..] button requires a little knowledge about memory allocation, kernel processor, etc.
In the MSCONFIG Command window, open the services tab. In this tab, you will see the services that Windows automatically start at start-up. There are several services that are unnecessary and should be turned off, namely:
Automatic Update. This service is if you want to automatically update windows. should be disabled.
Error Reporting Service. If you ever see a window that says "Error Occured ......." then there is an option to send or don't send. That's what this service is for. We usually choose don't send, so this service should be turned off.
Remote Desktop Help Manager. used to help you if you experience problems or errors in windows, you can ask your friends to access your computer remotely. If you never use this service you should turn off this service.
Uninterruptible Power Supplay (UPS). this is only if your computer uses a UPS. turn off this service if you are not using a UPS.
Even Log. Windows logs all logs of what happens in windows. If you never use the event log (in Control Panel> Administrative Tools), then you should just turn it off.
Help and Support. Get the support file by pressing F1 to activate. Do you often do and read the help files from Windows, you turn off this feature if you don't use Help and Support.
Net Logon. Supports pass-through authentication of account logon events for computers in a domain. If you are connected to a network and a domain. This feature is required, but if you only use your own computer and don't own a domain. This feature can be turned off.
Remote Registry. Authorizes a remote user to modify the registry on a computer. We recommend that it is turned off.
Security Center. Monitors system security settings and configurations. " Displays a Pop Up when the firewall is down, Anti-virus is out of date or the Windows update system is intentionally turned off. If you always monitor the 3 functions above, this feature can be turned off. Because the Security center function only monitors and not prevents and it is better to monitor directly the program Your Anti Virus.
TCP / IP NetBIOS Helper. Provides user experience theme management support for NetBIOS over TCP / IP (NetBT) service and NetBIOS name resolution. Turn it off if you don't need NetBIOS for the network.
It contains a list of resident applications / programs. Namely a program that automatically activates when Windows loads. Some programs are necessary sometimes, but most of them will only slow down the loading process of Windows and increase system performance weight.
That's a quick tutorial on the functions and features of MSCONFIG command on Windows. Hopefully this can be useful.
